Mediterranean swim, closed highway, palm-lined run

Challenge Salou-Costa Daurada is a triathlon on the Mediterranean coast in Salou, Spain, on 9 May 2027, celebrating more than 10 years of racing on the Costa Daurada.

The race is part of Challenge Family and is held each May. It is known for a fast bike on a closed highway, voted Best Bike Course in the 2024 Challenge Family Awards, and a run along beachfront boulevards in the shade of the palm trees. The race director is Juanan Fernandez.

The main race is the 100 distance: 2 km of swimming, 80 km on the bike and 18 km of running. The swim is off the main beach in Salou, with shallow water and views that reach the Ebro delta and the Serra de la Mussara. The bike course runs on a closed highway, flat and spectator friendly, where many athletes are surprised by their average speed. The run is flat along the seafront, with crowds cheering all the way to the finish.

The standard distance, 1.9 km, 55 km and 11 km, gives a shorter option on the same ground, and there is a fun run so the whole family can take part. Average air temperature is around 19 degrees and the sea around 18 in May.

The official race hotel, Hotel Blaumar, is just metres from the race village, and Salou has plenty of other accommodation. Barcelona's international airport gives easy access. Spectators can follow the race from the seafront, where the run passes close to the crowds.
