109 km around the Cape Peninsula on closed roads
The Cape Town Cycle Tour takes riders on a 109 km loop around the Cape Peninsula, with Chapman's Peak and Suikerbossie on the way home.
The Cape Town Cycle Tour has taken cyclists young and old around the Cape Peninsula since 1978. The 2026 race was the 48th, and the 2027 edition is on Sunday 14 March, on a route with full road closure.
Riders start from the Grand Parade start precinct in the city centre and ride 109 km to the finish at Green Point. On the way is the long drag up to Smitswinkel toward the entrance of the Cape Point Nature Reserve, then Chapman's Peak as a two part climb, with Little Chappies before the main ascent. After the descent into Hout Bay comes the climb of Suikerbossie, the last real effort before the finish.
There are cut-off points along the route, and riders who miss one are taken to Green Point by sweep bus. Entries are offered for PPA members, general, international and African continental riders.
The organiser's top tips for spectators include Wynberg Hill, and on the back half of the route Noordhoek Farm Village, Hout Bay, Suikerbossie and the home stretch through Camps Bay. Little Chappies has spectator support at its foot, and Green Point is where everyone comes in. Bikes are parked in the bike park at Green Point Cricket Fields after the finish.
On Livebib you can follow a rider who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Cape Town Cycle Tour.
