Open races at the world championship finals

World Triathlon Hamburg holds its open races on 11 and 12 September 2027, in the same week the city hosts the World Triathlon Championship Finals from 8 to 12 September.

Hamburg is billed as the biggest triathlon event in the world. For 2027 it hosts the Grand Final of the World Triathlon Championship Series for the first time, twenty years after its first world championship event, and World Triathlon expects more than 16,000 participants from over 70 nations during the week and more than 500,000 spectators. The open races celebrate their 25th anniversary.

The sprint on Saturday 11 September is 0.5 km of swimming, 20 km on the bike and 5 km of running. The standard distance on Sunday 12 September is 1.5 km, 40 km and 10 km. Both can be raced individually or as a relay, with a morning water start in the Binnenalster in blocks of about 150 athletes.

The swim is one lap in the Alster, framed by some of the city's finest buildings. The bike is two laps for the sprint and three for the standard distance, past the Speicherstadt and the Landungsbrücken and over the Lombardsbrücke, with a maximum gradient of 5 percent. The run loops along the Außenalster to the finish on the Rathausmarkt.

The compact city course around the Binnenalster and the Rathausmarkt remains the heart of the event. Age group world championship races fill the Thursday and Friday, and online entry for the open races closes on 1 September 2027.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry during the race. That is the athlete's own sharing and not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the organiser.
