Termières dera Libertat - TDL

The organiser built the TDL on the hidden paths that for decades served as escape routes for people fleeing war, persecution and repression, crossing border passes that saw movements of resistance. Much of it follows the VDA in reverse as far as Bassa d’Oles, then turns into alpine terrain through Montcorbison, Pomaròla, Val de Horno, Sarrahera, Cauva and Santet Escunhau.

The checkpoint table gives the shape: Bossòst at 713 metres, Portilhon at 7.6 km, Poilanèr at 2,001 metres, then down to Artiga de Lin at 30 km, the one point where personal assistance and the runner’s single drop bag are allowed. After Bassa d’Oles at 40 km come Horno at 53 km and Santet Escunhau at 1,783 metres before the finish in Vielha at 74.8 km. The course climbs 5,100 metres.

Twenty hours from a 07:30 start runs past midnight, and the last runners come off Santet Escunhau in the dark. A runner who shares a Livebib link lets family follow the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate for Vielha that updates as the race goes, without an account or an app. Where a border pass or valley floor has no signal, the position continues along the course marked as estimated rather than stopping on the map.
