Course & challenge

Camins d'Hèr - CDH

The organiser describes the CDH as a journey through the mining history of the valley, through tunnels and mines at the foot of the Mauberme, and then into lakes, waterfalls and rivers. The checkpoint table makes that concrete. From Les at 637 metres the course passes Canejan and the Refugi Honeria, then climbs to the Mines de Liat at 2,322 metres around 23 km, Còth de Varradòs and the Pòrt d’Urets at 2,520 before Montgarri and Beret.

Salardú comes at 61 km, then the lake section shared with the VDA: Banhs de Tredòs, Estanh Obago at 2,239 metres, Colomèrs, Mont-Romies and Arties at 96 km, before Santet Escunhau and the Tuc de Meddia at 2,209 lead down to Vielha. The course climbs 6,400 metres. Assistance is allowed only at Salardú and Arties, where each runner’s two drop bags wait.

A 06:00 start means the front runs in daylight and most of the field reaches the lakes after dark. Through a Livebib link, family see the runner’s position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes, in a browser with no account. Up by the mines and among the lakes the phone may lose signal; the position is then carried forward along the course and shown as estimated, never as measured.
