Lake swim in Llyn Tegid with the Arans behind

Triathlon y Bala is held on Sunday 12 September 2027 at Llyn Tegid in Bala, with Sprint, Standard and Legend 70.3 distances.

Always Aim High Events comes back to Bala in 2027 for a fourth year of Sprint and Standard racing and a second year of the Legend 70.3. Every race begins with a water start in Llyn Tegid, with Aran Fawddwy as the backdrop, and the organiser counts it among the fully closed-road triathlons of North Wales.

The Sprint is a 750 m lake swim, 19.3 km bike and 5 km run. The Standard is a 1500 m out and back swim, 37 km on the bike and a 10 km run. The Legend is a 1900 m swim, 87.3 km bike and 18.5 km run.

The Standard bike follows the western shore of the lake, cuts through the lowlands of southern Eryri and turns back towards Bala, and the run is just as fast and flat. The organiser calls it the perfect route for beginners or a good chance of a PB. The Legend is a different day: an 87 km loop around Bala Lake and the Berwyn Mountains with 1,200 m of climbing on rolling moorland and quiet B roads, then two flat laps beside Llyn Tegid to a finish on the lake foreshore.

Standard waves normally start at about 09:00 and Legend waves at about 07:00, confirmed in the final instructions about 10 days before. The race supports Tom Harrison House, an addiction recovery centre for veterans, and its residents race in blue, so look out for them. With the Llandudno Triathlon in June, Bala makes up the Classic Triathlon Series.

On Livebib you can follow an athlete live when they choose to share their own position from the phone they carry on the bike and run. It is their own position, not the organiser's timing system, and official results come from the organiser.
