Two suspension footbridges, eight trails, two weekends
The Trail des Passerelles du Monteynard is a trail running festival around Lake Monteynard in Isère, built around two Himalayan style footbridges over the water.
The 16th edition runs from Saturday 3 to Sunday 11 July 2027, spread over two weekends and a Tuesday evening. The first weekend is quieter, with smaller fields: the Trail du Drac (14 km, 750 m of climbing) starts at 17:00 on 3 July from the beach at Mayres-Savel, and on 4 July Le Petit Train (27 km, 1,400 m) starts at 8:30 from Monteynard while the Mine Express duo (13 km, 700 m) starts at 9:15 from La Mine Image after a ride on the Petit Train de La Mure. On Tuesday 6 July, Le 3ème Poste (16 km, 700 m) leaves Prunières at 19:15 for La Motte d'Aveillans.
The second weekend is the original heart of the event, with the exhibitors' village at the Treffort water sports base. On Saturday 10 July the Trail de Côte Rouge (27 km, 1,300 m) starts in two waves at 9:00 and the Trail de l'Ébron (16 km, 750 m) at 17:00. On Sunday 11 July La Grande Course (64 km, 3,000 m) leaves La Mure at 5:00 and finishes at Treffort, and the Maratrail des Passerelles (40 km, 2,100 m) starts from Treffort at 7:15.
The terrain is mid mountain trail between the Trièves and the Matheysine. The Maratrail climbs to the summit of the Sénépi, which the organisers call the Everest of the event, and crosses both footbridges twice, four crossings in all. La Grande Course crosses the Drac footbridge and then the Ébron footbridge. Le Petit Train, Mine Express and Le 3ème Poste do not use the footbridges at all, which suits anyone wary of heights.
With distances from 13 to 64 km, the event suits first timers on the short evening races as well as experienced trail runners on the long Sunday courses. Entries for 2027 open on 5 November 2026 at noon. Spectators will find the most going on at Treffort on 10 and 11 July, with the village, the finish line and the prize givings.
On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the organiser.
