Course & challenge

Ultra-Trail des Païens

The organiser gives 108 km and 3,900 m of climbing. The start sits about a hundred metres from the line between Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin. After the vineyard paths and the fortified town of Saint-Hippolyte, the course climbs past the Schaentzel manor to Haut-Koenigsbourg, the first aid station at about km 10. From there it is castles, half-timbered villages and vines: Kintzheim, Châtenois (km 18, hot food), Dambach-la-Ville, Andlau, Spesbourg and Barr (km 61, hot food).

The finish follows the same paths as the Trail des Celtes: Landsberg, Birkenfels, Mont Sainte-Odile and its pagan wall, the Heidenkopf, then the Romanesque town of Rosheim and the ramparts of Obernai. In the organiser’s timing table the fastest arrive late on Friday afternoon and the last early on Saturday morning.
