The organiser gives 158 km and 5,100 m of climbing with a 40-hour limit. The start, above 1,100 m, is close to the highest point of the course. The first kilometres pass the Tour du Faudé and the Auberge du Lac Noir, then climb the Brezouard before Aubure, which the organiser calls the highest village in Alsace (km 40). Around km 60 the course reaches Haut-Koenigsbourg and starts down toward the foothills: Châtenois (km 68, hot food), Dambach-la-Ville, Andlau and Barr (km 111, hot food).

The last third climbs again, past Landsberg to Mont Sainte-Odile, the abbey of Niedermunster, Klingenthal and the Heidenkopf, then down through Rosheim to Obernai. The organiser’s timing table puts the fastest in Obernai on Saturday morning and the last on Sunday morning, so most of the field runs through Friday night in the forest.
