The organiser gives 47 km and 1,600 m of climbing. From the wine town of Barr the course leaves the vineyards for dense forest, climbing to the Château du Landsberg (km 5) and Birkenfels, then on to Mont Sainte-Odile around km 15, the spiritual landmark that looks over the Alsace plain. It drops past the remains of Niedermunster Abbey (km 17, food) to Klingenthal (km 25, food).

The second climb goes to the Heidenkopf, near an old Celtic site, which gives the race its name. For anyone with energy left, the organiser points out the Mündel tower and its 360° view. Then it is vineyards again, the old town gates of Rosheim (km 41, food) and the finish on the ramparts of Obernai. The organiser’s timing table expects the fastest around 10:30 and the last before 17:00.
