Eleven Frisian cities by paddle board

The SUP 11-City Tour takes stand-up paddlers on a 220 km tour through the waterways of Friesland in the Netherlands, either in one continuous push or over five days.

The route follows the waterways along the eleven historic cities of Friesland, in the north of the Netherlands, with views of the cities and the landscape around them. The event was founded by Anne-Marie Valeria Reichman, a former PWA professional windsurfer who fell in love with SUP on Maui and brought the sport home to Friesland. It is run by a non-profit organisation with a board and volunteers.

The NON-Stop starts on Saturday 4 September 2027 and is paddled in one go. The organiser describes it as over 200 km, and the time limit is 34 hours for men and 36 hours for women. Participants may stop as often as they wish, and the organisers say the cut off times are just as strict as those of the original eleven cities tour on skates. The organiser sets up support points at Sloten, Workum, Franeker and Dokkum, and in between them each paddler relies on a mandatory support team of their own.

The five-day event runs from Wednesday 8 to Sunday 12 September 2027 and covers the same tour in daily stages, with a competition class and a recreational class. Paddlers can enter solo, prone, as a team or on a tandem board.

The organiser publishes maps of both routes, bridge by bridge, and notes that the routing can change before the start. The final route and the practical details are given at the skippers meeting, so check the event pages close to the date.
