Spartan's winter Trifecta

Spartan Valmorel is a winter obstacle race weekend at the Valmorel ski resort, gateway to the Tarentaise valley in the French Alps, on 20 and 21 March 2027.

The organiser calls it France's premier winter Trifecta and the only winter Trifecta on the Spartan calendar. The course is snow covered and combines alpine altitude, mountain village charm and wide views, which makes it unlike any summer Spartan.

Saturday 20 March is the Beast, 21 km with 30 obstacles. Sunday 21 March is the Super, 10 km with 25 obstacles, and the Sprint, 5 km with 20 obstacles, runs on both days. Hurricane Heat team challenges, including a 12 hour version, add an endurance option for committed athletes.

Snow changes everything: footing is slower, cold hands make grip obstacles harder and the climbs come at altitude. Layers, gloves and shoes with grip are worth thinking about. Valmorel draws thousands of competitors, from seasoned racers to first time Spartans chasing the winter medal.

Valmorel is about two hours from the major cities of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, and the event is based at the Valmorel ski resort in Les Avanchers. Spartan also offers Hurricane Heat on the Friday for those who arrive early.
