Champagne gravel around Steamboat Springs

SBT GRVL is a gravel race and ride from downtown Steamboat Springs into the ranch country of Routt County, with four colour coded courses on one Sunday in June.

The 2027 edition runs on Sunday 27 June, with the expo and side events on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 June. Every course starts at Yampa and 10th Street in downtown Steamboat Springs and comes back to Yampa Street. Entry is by random selection, and the window for 2027 ran from 14 to 31 October 2026.

The Black Course is the race: 108 miles with 8,189 feet of climbing and about 70% gravel. It climbs Zipp Cow Creek, heads over Trout Creek and Wahooligan Pass toward Hayden and returns down Cow Creek. The Blue Course covers 73 miles with 5,843 feet, the Red Course 53 miles with 4,198 feet, and the Green Course 25 miles with 1,822 feet and the least gravel of the four.

Pro men and open riders start the Black Course at 5:45 am, pro women at 5:50 am and amateurs at 6:30 am. Blue starts at 7:15 am, Red at 7:35 am and Green at 7:40 am, and Black, Blue and Red each go off in two waves five minutes apart. Riders on the Black and Blue courses who do not average 10 mph and 8 mph are sent onto a shorter route, and e-bikes are allowed on every course except Black.

The Green Course suits newer gravel cyclists and e-bike riders, though it still climbs above 7,000 feet. Red and Blue suit fit riders who want a long day without the full century. On the Black Course, the Hayden Gun Range aid station is both the spectator zone and the one place where outside team nutrition support is allowed.
