Swim in Bassin Louise, ride a closed highway

SAIL Challenge Québec is a triathlon weekend in the heart of Québec City, held from 23 to 25 July 2027 beside the St Lawrence River.

Challenge Family chose Québec in 2024 for its first triathlon in the province, and the race has since received the Challenge Family Award for best race, voted by athletes from around the world. The athletes' village stands along the St Lawrence River.

The middle distance on 25 July is 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km on the bike and 21.1 km of running. Every race swims in Bassin Louise, surrounded by yachts beside Old Québec. The bike uses the Dufferin Montmorency highway, which is closed for an event only on this weekend, on a multi lap out and back along the river with views of Île d'Orléans and the city.

The run is flat and largely shaded, passing through Old Québec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and following the Saint Charles River before the finish by the Port de Québec marina. The Olympic distance covers 1.5 km, 40 km and 10 km and the sprint 750 m, 20 km and 5 km, so the weekend works for first timers as well as for experienced athletes.

Average air temperature in late July is around 25 degrees and the water around 23. Family and friends can follow the swim from the many viewpoints around Bassin Louise, and the out and back run brings athletes back past the crowd at the finish area.
