Four days of trail in Finnish Lapland

Saariselkä MTB Stages is a mountain bike stage race in Finnish Lapland that shows riders the best trails of Urho Kekkonen National Park and the Hammastunturi wilderness.

The 17th edition runs from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 August 2027, and the race has been held since 2011. Outdoor Expert Saariselkä organises it from Saariselkä, and the routes are being renewed for 2027 while keeping the most iconic trails.

The elite classes race four days and about 200 km in total, opening on Thursday with a 15 km time trial. The sport classes, the DUO pairs, the e-bike classes and juniors aged 18 ride three days and about 185 km, with stages of roughly 50, 75 and 50 km from Friday to Sunday. Juniors aged 12 and 15 and the adventure class ride three shorter stages of about 55 km in total. You can also enter just one or two stages, which puts you in the day results.

Elite racing needs a licence, the sport classes do not, and the sport class is split into age groups from 30 to 70. Every stage has aid along the route and at the finish, and a meal at Santa's Hotel Tunturi after each stage. E-bikes must be road legal pedal-assist bikes with up to 250 W.

The race suits riders who want several days of wilderness trail rather than one hard day. The organiser names Tolosjoki, Ahopää Rock'n'Roll, Rautulampi Trail Paradise and The Moment of Truth among the trails waiting for riders, and a kids' race runs close to the race centre.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from Saariselkä MTB Stages.
