Run in Lyon by Harmonie Mutuelle, live.

Up the Saône, down the Rhône

Run in Lyon is a city race laid along two rivers: every course starts on the Saône below Fourvière and finishes on Place Bellecour.

The 2026 edition ran on Sunday 4 October, and the organiser has announced 3 October 2027 for the next one. There are three timed races and an untimed 5 km solidarity run. The marathon and the half marathon start together at 08:15 from Vieux Lyon – Palais de Justice, in corrals by target time running until 09:31 for the half. The 10K starts at 12:05. Cut-offs are 5 h 30 for the marathon, 3 h for the half and 1 h 30 for the 10K, enforced by a sweep vehicle.

On the organiser’s maps the shape is the same for all three. The course heads north up the Saône, along the quays past Vaise, turns and comes back down the other bank, crosses the Presqu’île by Place des Terreaux and Pont Morand, and finishes down the Rhône and back over the Pont de la Guillotière to Bellecour. The 10K turns at Pont Robert Schuman; the half and the marathon go as far as Collonges-au-Mont-d’Or, and the marathon adds the Parc de la Tête d’Or, Gerland and Confluence. Aid stations come every 5 km, with no cups or bottles: runners bring their own container.

In a race this size, the people on the quays mostly see a stream of strangers. On Livebib the runner shares a link that family and friends open in a browser, with no account and no app. They see the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes, whichever wave the runner left in. If the phone loses signal between the buildings, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated. The runner decides who gets the link.
