Four days of racing along the Rio shoreline

The Maratona do Rio spreads a 5K, a 10K, a half marathon and a marathon over four days at the end of May, finishing on the Aterro do Flamengo.

The 2027 Maratona do Rio is a special edition marking 25 years of the race, and it runs from Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 May 2027 in Rio de Janeiro. Each distance has its own day: the 5K on Thursday, the 10K on Friday, the half marathon on Saturday and the marathon on Sunday.

The marathon starts at Praia do Recreio and finishes on the Aterro do Flamengo. The half marathon starts on Leblon beach and finishes in the same place. The 10K starts and finishes on the Aterro do Flamengo by the Marina da Glória, in waves from 07:00, and the start place and time of the 5K will be announced later. Water stations come roughly every 3 km.

The time limits are 6 hours for the marathon, 3 hours for the half and 90 minutes for the 10K and 5K, counted from the start of the last wave. Entry to the marathon and the half goes through a ballot, while the 5K and 10K are sold directly. A marathon entrant can upgrade to the Desafio 21K+42K, which combines Saturday's half with Sunday's marathon for a special medal, while places last. Foreign entrants can register directly without the ballot.

A city by the sea and four days of racing make this a natural choice for a holiday race, and the format lets a group mix distances. Supporters can head for the Aterro do Flamengo, where the marathon, the half and the 10K all finish.
