1230 km to Brest and back, every four years

Paris-Brest-Paris Randonneur is the oldest long-distance cycling event in the world, a 1230 km ride from Rambouillet to Brest and back that the Audax Club Parisien runs every four years.

The 21st edition runs from 22 to 26 August 2027. The first Paris-Brest-Paris was held in 1891, and since 1931 it has been a non-competitive randonnée open to all, ridden at your own pace. As in 2023, the start and finish are in the park of the Château de Rambouillet, about 50 km south-west of Paris.

The route is 1230 km with around 11000 m of climbing, to be completed within 90 hours for most riders. Waves leave every 15 minutes from Sunday 22 August in the afternoon until Monday 23 August in the morning. The first Sunday waves, from 16h, have an 80 hour limit, the later Sunday waves 90 hours and the Monday morning waves 84 hours. A Sunday wave at 17h15 is set aside for women who want to start with other women.

The 2027 route is largely new. The outward and return roads differ for most of the way, Brittany is ridden as a full loop, and the course passes near Mont-Saint-Michel and through Chartres. There are 16 stages with a control at the end of each, in towns such as Mortagne-au-Perche, Villaines-la-Juhel, Fougères, Tinténiac, Loudéac and Brest, plus secret controls.

Every participant must complete the full series of qualifying brevets, 200, 300, 400 and 600 km, in 2027 before the start. Entry is capped at 8000 riders. The public that cheers the riders along the whole route, by day and by night, is part of the event's reputation, and Rambouillet sees the waves leave and the riders return.

On Livebib you can follow a cyclist who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the organiser.
