Long distance racing on the Baltic

The OstseeMan is a long and middle distance triathlon in Glücksburg on Germany's Baltic coast, raced on Sunday 1 August 2027.

The race calls itself the Hawaii of the North, and demand keeps rising. For 2027 the roughly 800 middle distance places went in 86 hours, and every distance and relay was sold out less than three weeks after the 2026 race. Waiting lists and an official place exchange remain open.

Both races start from the Kurstrand beach in Glücksburg on a clockwise 1.9 km rectangle in the Baltic. The long distance, 3.8 km, 180 km and 42.195 km, swims two laps from a mass start, and the middle distance, 1.9 km, 90 km and 21.1 km, one lap in four start groups. The bike reaches a maximum of 51 m above sea level and includes about 20 km on the closed B199 and the passage of Sandwig Hill, with two laps for the middle and four for the long distance.

The run is laps of 7.03 km, three for the middle and six for the long distance, along the Kurpromenade by the water, over the Blocksberg into town and out to Quellental, with a loop through the Flensburger Segel-Club. Cut-offs are 15 hours for the long and 8 hours for the middle distance.

The finish channel on the promenade is lined with stands, and spectators have good views at several points of the bike course. On Saturday 31 July the OstseeKids race and a charity run on the promenade start the weekend.

Livebib lets you follow an athlete who decides to share their own live position from the phone they carry on course. The dot on the map is that person's own sharing, not the organiser's timing, and official results are published by the organiser.
