Mountain biking across Finnmarksvidda in the midnight sun

Offroad Finnmark is a week of long mountain bike races from Alta across Finnmarksvidda, north of the Arctic Circle, with 150, 300 and 700 km on offer.

The 2027 festival week runs from 24 to 31 July, with every race starting from the pedestrian street by Scandic in Alta. The riding goes largely on old post roads and trails through the Sámi heartland of Finnmarksvidda, part of Europe's largest wilderness area, and it never gets dark during the race week.

OF150 is the one-day format. It starts on Saturday 24 July at 10:00, runs out to Jotka Fjellstue, a checkpoint on this route since 2008, and back to Alta, with a 10 minute compulsory stop at both Alta and Jotka. The finish deadline is 02:00 on Sunday morning.

OF700 starts on Monday 26 July at 13:00 and is ridden continuously, through up to five municipalities and past 10 to 12 staffed checkpoints at mountain lodges, wilderness centres and village halls. The organiser calls it the world's longest and toughest mountain bike race. OF300 starts on Thursday 29 July at 18:00, and most teams finish during Friday. Both long races close on Saturday 31 July at 12:00, and they are offered as solo and team entries.

OF150 suits strong riders who want the Finnmark experience in a single day, and many use it as a first step toward the longer distances. The fastest riders finish in about 7 hours, and everyone home within 16 hours earns the finisher jersey.
