Studded shoes on New Year’s Eve

The last race of the year in Vallentuna, for the 44th time, on asphalt park paths and roads that can look entirely different from one year to the next.

Nyårsloppet is run on Wednesday 31 December 2026, organised by Vallentuna Friidrottsklubb. The race centre is Rosendalsskola södra in Vallentuna, the school formerly called Ekebyskolan. The 5 km starts at 11:00, the 2 km youth race for boys and girls born 2011 or later at 11:40, and the 10 km at 12:00. Both the 5 and the 10 km have a competition class and a motion class for women and men.

The courses follow asphalt park paths and roads, but this is a winter race and the surface changes from year to year; sometimes the organiser recommends studded shoes. Bibs are collected on race day and not before, online entry stays open right up to the start, and changing rooms, showers and bag storage in the sports hall are at the race centre. Every finisher gets a medal, the competition classes get prizes and the motion classes have a prize draw. Parking at the school is limited, and a bus passes Teknikvägen 25.

On New Year’s Eve plenty of people have other things to do than stand at a finish line in the cold. With Livebib, the runner shares a link to their own broadcast, and family open it in a browser with no account and no app, at home or in the car: the position on the course line, the distance so far and a finish estimate that updates during the race. If the phone loses signal, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated rather than freezing. The runner decides who gets the link.
