Eight kilometres on ground the public never walks

A trail race with obstacles, run out of Skansen Idrætscenter in Nørresundby and into military terrain that is closed to the public the rest of the year.

Aalborg Firmaidræt holds Mud Race on the first Saturday in October, and in 2026 that is 3 October. Start and finish are at Skansen Idrætscenter, Lerumbakken 11, on the north side of the Limfjord in Nørresundby, where bus 1 from central Aalborg stops. Three classes run the same 8 km: Mens Mud Race at 12:30, Mix Mud Race at 13:00 and Ladies Mud Race at 13:30. The organiser calls the times approximate — they can move by up to 30 minutes depending on entries, and the exact time is emailed a week before. A 3 km Family Mud Race around the chalk quarry, new in 2026, starts at 11:30.

The 8 km line leaves the sports centre for the army’s exercise ground: uneven natural terrain, the Danish Defence’s own obstacle course, man-made obstacles built to work the whole body, mud and lake water. The organiser promises blisters on the hands. Bib limits are 400 for Mens, 400 for Mix and 600 for Ladies. Back at Skansen there is a hot shower, the swimming hall, and the Mudderhullet bar, open from 10:00.

Most of this course is out of sight of the people waiting at the sports centre, which is where a Livebib link helps. The runner shares their own broadcast; family open it in a browser, with no account and no app, and see the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. If the phone loses signal out in the terrain, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated rather than frozen. The runner decides who gets the link.
