24 km up the Fuji Subaru Line

The Mt. Fuji Hill Climb is a mass participation hill climb in Yamanashi, from Fujihokuroku Park in Fujiyoshida up the Fuji Subaru Line to the fifth station of Mount Fuji.

The 23rd edition is on Sunday 6 June 2027. Registration and the cycle expo are on Saturday 5 June, and the Fuji Hill Ride Tour runs on Friday 4 June. The expo is one of the largest in Japan, with new bikes on show and on test.

The course is 25 km long, and 24 km of it is timed, from the intersection at the entrance to the Tainai cave up to the fifth station. The height gain is 1,270 m in all and 1,255 m on the timed section. The average gradient is 5.2 percent and the steepest part is 7.8 percent, so the climb is long and steady rather than brutal. A 1 km section between 19 and 20 km carries a mountain sprint prize.

The moderate gradient and generous time limit make the race suitable for first timers, and the organiser reports an average finishing rate above 98 percent for four years in a row. It is open to healthy riders aged 12 and over, with a selected class for fast riders based on past results and age group classes for everyone else.

Finishers descend from the fifth station in guided groups, led at a safe speed back to the venue. In 2026 the Fuji Subaru Line was closed to all traffic during the race, and the event venue is at Fujihokuroku Park. The event gives 3 percent of its entry fees to the protection of Mount Fuji, a World Heritage site.
