One lap of the mountain

The course does the simplest thing a hundred-miler can do: it goes all the way around Mount Fuji and comes back to where it started.

Mt. FUJI 100 — the race that was Ultra-Trail Mount Fuji — is Japan’s flagship hundred-miler and its entry in the World Trail Majors. The FUJI 100mi covers 165 kilometres with 6,254 metres of ascent in a full circle of the mountain, through volcanic gravel, dense rooty forest and the lakes of the northern foot, with Fuji itself in view for most of the daylight hours. The KAI 70k and the ASUMI 40k run on the Saturday and finish in the same place, Fujikawaguchiko.

It is a course of long, quiet sections between aid stations, run through a night that gets genuinely cold at altitude in April.
