FUJI 100mi

A hundred and sixty-five kilometres with 6,254 metres of ascent, run as one enormous circle. The route leaves the lakes on the northern side, works around the western foot of Fuji through forest and volcanic gravel, crosses the southern flank where the mountain is closest and steepest, and comes back along the eastern side to Fujikawaguchiko. Most runners are out for a night and the better part of two days, and the temperature difference between the lakeside and the high sections is large enough to matter.

This is Japan’s biggest hundred-mile race and the country’s entry in the World Trail Majors, so the field mixes the domestic elite with runners who have flown in for it.
