Over the Gineste and through the Calanques to Cassis

The 48th Marseille-Cassis takes about 20,000 participants over 20 km from Marseille to Cassis on Sunday 31 October 2027.

Marseille-Cassis is a road race of 20 km between the city of Marseille and the harbour town of Cassis, traditionally held on the last Sunday of October. The 48th edition is on Sunday 31 October 2027. It is organised by SCO Sainte-Marguerite with the town of Cassis, and carries the international label of the French athletics federation.

The race was created by André Giraud, who used to train on the Gineste road with a friend. The first edition, on 28 October 1979, had a little more than 700 runners at the start. Today the organiser counts about 20,000 entrants every year and more than 800 volunteers.

The start is on the Boulevard Michelet in Marseille, near the Vélodrome. From there the course passes over the Gineste and crosses 12 km of the Calanques National Park, the only urban national park in Europe, before dropping to the finish on the heights of Cassis among the Provence vineyards. The road over the Gineste rewards careful pacing, and preferential start pens exist for people aiming at under 1 hour 20, 1 hour 30 or 1 hour 45.

The whole course is closed to traffic. The start and finish areas are reserved for participants, but supporters can cheer at several encouragement zones that can be reached on foot, and regional trains run between Marseille and Cassis on race day.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, so the dot on the map is only as good as that phone and its signal. Official results and splits come from the organiser.
