177 km over the Glandon and Galibier to Alpe d'Huez

The Marmotte Granfondo Alpes is the classic alpine cyclosportive, a single day from Bourg d'Oisans over the high passes to the top of Alpe d'Huez.

The organiser calls the Marmotte the biggest one day cycling event of the summer in the Alps after the Tour de France. The 2027 edition is on Sunday 27 June, starting from the centre of Bourg d'Oisans from 06:30.

The course is 177 km with 5,000 m of climbing. Riders go over the Col du Glandon, where timing is frozen on the descent, then the Télégraphe at 1,570 m and the Galibier at 2,645 m, before returning down to the valley and finishing with the 21 hairpins of Alpe d'Huez. There are cut-offs at the top of the Galibier at 15:30 and at the foot of Alpe d'Huez in Bourg d'Oisans at 17:45.

This is a ride for well trained cyclists who can climb for hours. For a shorter taste of the same roads, the Grimpée Alpe d'Huez on Friday 25 June is a 13.8 km time trial with 1,100 m of climbing, starting at 16:00 from Bourg d'Oisans. La Rando des Marmottes on 26 and 27 June offers 97 km and 80 km routes from Bourg d'Oisans and Valloire.

For spectators, the climb to Alpe d'Huez is where the day comes alive, with the field spread over many hours. The prize giving is at the Palais des Sports in Alpe d'Huez.
