A marathon in fancy dress through the Médoc vineyards

The 41st Marathon des Châteaux du Médoc starts and finishes on the quays of Pauillac on Saturday 4 September 2027.

The Marathon des Châteaux du Médoc is a full marathon of 42.195 km run through the vineyards and wine estates north of Bordeaux, and it is famous for one rule above all: the Médoc is run in fancy dress. The 41st edition takes place on Saturday 4 September 2027, with an exploration theme for the costumes.

The start is given at 09:30 on the quays of Pauillac and the finish is in the same place. The time limit is 6 hours 30 minutes, and a team of sweepers runs at that pace. Along the way the organiser lists 22 refreshment points, about twenty wine tastings in moderate doses and 55 tasting and entertainment stops with oysters, entrecôte, cheese, grapes and ice cream.

Entry is limited to 8,500 participants, and runners must be at least 20 years old on race day. Registration opens in early March on a first come, first served basis. Bibs are collected only on Friday 3 September, from 10:00 to 23:00 at the COSEC in Pauillac, where the marathon village also opens.

For friends and family, Pauillac is the place to be. The fancy dress parade runs from 08:00, the prize giving is on the quays at 16:00, and the evening ends with music and fireworks at 22:30. On Sunday 5 September a recovery walk in Listrac-Médoc is open to runners and supporters, limited to 3,000 people.
