High Sierra gravel from Portola

The Lost and Found is a gravel race and festival in Portola, in the Sierra Nevada of northeastern California, with three routes into the mountains around town.

The next Lost and Found is on 19 June 2027 in Portola. The weekend opens with a Friday shakeout ride, the main event is on Saturday, and the festival brings music and camping. The event is run by the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship, the people behind the Downieville Classic, and its proceeds go back into the trails.

There are three routes, all starting at Portola City Park. The Full Bull is 99 miles with 5,946 ft of climbing and is meant for race pacers and fit riders after a hard day. The Mid Moo is 58 miles with 3,564 ft. The Half Calf is 40 miles with 2,850 ft, a social and scenic ride. The organiser notes that the distances are approximate, within a few miles.

The current routes mix smooth, fast gravel with chunky Lost Sierra dirt roads, use parts of the Beckwourth Gennessee Road around Lake Davis, and include 2.4 miles of singletrack near the end. The Full Bull is 84 percent dirt, the Mid Moo 70 percent and the Half Calf 60 percent. The organiser recommends tyres of at least 45 mm on a gravel bike, or a light rigid mountain bike.

The finish is at Baldwin Park on the north end of town, and riders then roll back to the city park for the post race party with a band, a beer garden and local food, which is the place for friends and family to be.

On Livebib you can follow a rider who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the organiser.
