Sea swim, Great Orme and promenade in one morning

The Llandudno Triathlon & Duathlon is held on Sunday 27 June 2027 on the seafront of the Victorian resort, with a sea swim, closed-road laps of the Great Orme and a run along the promenade.

Always Aim High Events runs the race, now in its 6th year, in Llandudno, Conwy. The swim starts close to the Victorian pier, which makes it easy to watch, and the bike course uses Marine Drive, the scenic road around the Great Orme, closed to traffic for the race.

The Sprint is a 750 m sea swim, 17.5 km on the bike over two laps of Marine Drive and a 5 km run over two promenade laps. The Standard doubles the swim to 1500 m, rides four laps for 34.75 km and runs three laps for 9.4 km. The Standard Duathlon opens with a 5 km run on the promenade, then the same 34.75 km bike and 9.4 km run.

The Great Orme is 2 miles long, 1 mile wide and rises 207 metres from the sea, so each lap of Marine Drive has real ups and downs. Much of the headland is a Special Area of Conservation and a Heritage Coast. The run is flat by comparison, following the line of the beach with a lap point next to the paddling pool and lifeboat station.

The organiser pitches it at first-timers and seasoned athletes alike. The swim depends on the tides: the first Standard wave typically starts at about 09:00 and the first Sprint wave at about 10:30, with exact times in the final instructions 10 days before. Spectators can watch the swim from the pier and line the promenade for the finish. The Classic Triathlon Series pairs Llandudno with Triathlon y Bala in September, both closed-road races.

On Livebib you can follow an athlete live when they choose to share their own position from the phone they carry on the bike and run. It is their own position, not the organiser's timing system, and official results come from the organiser.
