From Harimaya Bridge to the Pacific shore

The Kochi Ryoma Marathon runs from the centre of Kochi out along the Pacific coast of Tosa and back inland to a stadium finish.

Kochi Ryoma Marathon 2027 is on Sunday 21 February 2027, held in rain. The marathon starts at 9:00 and racing closes at 16:00. The course is certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations and World Athletics.

The route leaves from in front of the Kochi Prefectural Office, passes Harimaya Bridge, follows the Nankoku bypass and the Haruno Akaoka prefectural road, crosses the Urado Ohashi Bridge and runs near Katsurahama. It then crosses the bridge at the mouth of the Niyodo River, turns at Niihobuchi in Tosa City and finishes at GIKEN Stadium. The time limit is 7 hours from the gun, and there are 10,000 places on a first come basis for people aged 18 or over on race day.

The Pair Relay covers about 43 km for two people, 300 pairs in all. The first runner covers about 20 km from the Prefectural Office to the changeover at Tanezaki and has 3 hours 15 minutes from the gun. A 1.4 km fun run at 8:40 is open to children from the first year of primary school up to 17 and to wheelchair users, finishing in Toyo Denka Chuo Park.

The marathon suits people who want a coastal course with long bridges. Runners' bags are carried from the start area to the finish. Supporters can see the start in the city centre and then head for the stadium finish.
