430 km and three mountain passes through Jotunheimen
Jotunheimen Rundt is a road ride of 430 km from Lærdal to Sogndal that crosses three mountain passes and climbs 4,609 m on the way.
The 2027 edition runs on 25 and 26 June. Sogn Cykleklubb in Sogndal organises the ride, which has been held since 1991. It is not meant as a chase. The organiser describes it as a long day for people who like to ride, take in the landscape and spend time at the seven food stations.
The route leaves Lærdal up the Lærdalsdalen valley past Borgund stave church and over Filefjell, then runs through Valdres to Fagernes and Beitostølen. Valdresflya opens the view to the peaks and glaciers of Jotunheimen before the steep descent to Randen and the road to Lom, home of Galdhøpiggen and Glittertind at 2,469 and 2,452 m. From Lom the Sognefjellsvegen climbs to 1,440 m at Fantesteinen, the highest mountain pass in Northern Europe, before 14 tight bends drop past Turtagrø to Fortun and Skjolden and the ride follows the Sognefjord to the finish in Sogndal.
Sognefjellrittet on Saturday 26 June is the shorter version, 137 km with 2,690 m of climbing from Lom to Sogndal. Most riders need six to eight hours and arrive in Sogndal together with the full distance field. The waffles at Sognefjellshytta are a well known stop.
Places are limited and registration opens on 1 December. The full route asks for solid training, with long climbs and some hard descents. Both routes meet in Lom, and the finish area in the town park in Sogndal serves food and has a speaker to welcome the riders.
On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from Jotunheimen Rundt.
