An autumn marathon along the River Derwent

The Hobart Marathon Festival brings five distances to the Hobart waterfront on Sunday 4 April 2027.

The Hobart Marathon Festival is on Sunday 4 April 2027, with the start and finish at Princes Wharf 1 on Castray Esplanade. The organiser, Atlas Events, describes the course as rolling and the conditions as cool autumn weather, and says it is not Australia's easiest marathon. More than 4,000 people take part across the distances.

The marathon and the half marathon both start at 6:00, before dawn. The marathon follows the River Derwent past Salamanca Place, through the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens and around the waterfront on a multi loop course, with a cut-off of 6 hours 10 minutes. The half marathon is one loop of the waterfront, Salamanca and the Botanic Gardens, with a 3 hour 30 minute limit. The 10 km starts at 7:30, the 5 km run and 5 km walk at 9:30, and the 2 km mini marathon at 10:30.

Minimum ages are 17 for the marathon and 14 for the half marathon, and the 2 km is built for children and families. Pacers target finish times from 3:00 to 5:00 in the marathon. Bibs and the expo are at Princes Wharf 1 on Saturday 3 April from 9:00 to 16:00.

The organiser says the multi loop course gives runners plenty of support along the way. By the time the 5 km starts at 9:30, the marathon field is on its final lap and crowds line the waterfront, and the 2 km starts at 10:30 when the finish area is at its busiest.
