A gran fondo on the Uruguayan coast

GFNY Punta del Este is a gran fondo in Maldonado, Uruguay, part of the GFNY series, with a long and a medium road route.

The 2027 edition is on Sunday 14 March. Riders start by the ocean and head inland toward Pan de Azúcar, then return to finish at the Parador Pedro Figari on Playa Mansa.

The long route covers 146 kilometres with 1,700 metres of climbing, and the medium route 86 kilometres with 715 metres. The course uses Ruta 60 and Ruta 12, and Punta Ballena comes about 10 kilometres before the finish, which puts one of the last efforts close to home.

The medium route is a good target for cyclists who ride regularly and want their first gran fondo, while the long route asks for a full season of endurance training. Both are road routes, so a road bike is the natural choice.

Spectators can gather at the finish at Playa Mansa, where riders on both routes come in. The start by the ocean is the other good place to be.
