Five stages on the Salpausselkä ridges

Fin5 is a week of orienteering in south-eastern Finland, held in 2027 around Lappeenranta, Savitaipale and Taipalsaari with five stages from Monday 12 to Saturday 17 July.

The week is organised by the club Lappeen Riento, and Fin5 itself goes back to 1984, when the first one was held in Kauhajoki. The 2027 week is set on and around the Salpausselkä ridges, and the stages move between forest terrain in Savitaipale and Taipalsaari and the streets of Lappeenranta.

Stages 1 and 2 are middle distances at Hämäläinen-Heituinlahti in Savitaipale, on Monday 12 July at 14:00 and Tuesday 13 July at 11:00. Stage 3 on Wednesday 14 July at 17:00 is a sprint in the centre of Lappeenranta. After a day without a stage, the long distance follows at Solkei in Taipalsaari on Friday 16 July at 12:00, and the week ends there with a middle distance on Saturday 17 July at 10:00, with a chasing start for the elite classes.

Course lengths differ by class. The invitation gives preliminary elite lengths of 6.9 km for H21E and 5.9 km for D21E on the middle distances, 3.9 km and 3.4 km on the sprint, and 15.0 km and 12.0 km on the long distance. Every other class has its own course, set to suit the age and level of that class.

The organisers describe the forests as easy going Salpausselkä heath terrain that suits every age, from top orienteers to beginners and fitness orienteers, and national championship medals have been decided in them several times. Competition classes run from H/D8 to H/D90, open classes offer courses of different levels and lengths, and the venues are about 30 to 45 minutes apart. Entry for the competition classes is open, with price steps ending on 30 November 2026, 28 February 2027 and 14 June 2027.
