Lakes and sea on a Stockholm archipelago island

EX Swimrun Runmarö sends two courses out from Svängens Krog at 13:00 on Sunday 6 June 2027, Sweden's National Day, mixing warm inland lakes with the sea.

Runmarö sits in the heart of the archipelago where swimrun was born, and EX Swimrun tested courses on the island over a summer before settling on this race. The island has seven inland lakes, called träsk locally, which offer warm and safe swimming early in the season. On the long course they are combined with cooler sea swims out towards Gråskärsfjärden.

There are two distances, and both start and finish at Svängens Krog at 13:00. EX Long is about 24 km and EX Short about 15 km. On the course pages the organiser gives the long course as about 22 to 25 km with roughly 17 percent swimming and the short one as about 14 km with roughly 10 percent swimming, and the route is adjusted to the sea temperature on the day.

The route links the lakes of the island: the clear water of Viträsket, the classic Uppebyträsket, glittering Stoholmsfladen and the mysterious Noreträsket. Out at sea there is a swim towards Storholmen and Solberga, and a crossing of Runmarö kanal to Storön and back. In between you run on island trails and gravel roads, and both courses end with a final 3 km run back to Svängens Krog.

EX Short focuses on easier running and warmer swimming and is the only distance open to solo racers, while EX Long brings more technical running out on Storholmen. Each race takes at most 50 teams. EX Swimrun says it runs the race with love of the sport at the centre, and the arena at Svängens Krog serves food and drink before and after the race.
