Fourteen kilometres from the city to Bondi

City2Surf is Sydney's big August fun run, a 14 km point to point course from the city centre to Bondi Beach.

The 2027 City2Surf is on Sunday 8 August. The course starts in the city near Hyde Park and finishes at Bondi Beach, 14 km later. Along the way it climbs Heartbreak Hill, the long rise that every participant talks about afterwards, before dropping down towards the ocean.

The first event in 1971 had 2,025 entrants. Today more than 85,000 people take part, from elite athletes to families walking the whole way. Since 2008 participants have raised over 63 million dollars for charity.

The course records give a sense of what is possible at the front. Steve Moneghetti ran 40:03 in 1991, and Susie Power holds the women's record of 45:08. Most people, though, come for the atmosphere and the finish by the beach.

Bibs and race packs are collected at the expo at the Hordern Pavilion in Moore Park. Spectators can watch the start in the city, line Heartbreak Hill or wait at Bondi, where the finish area fills up through the morning. Plan the trip home from Bondi in advance, as the roads around the finish are busy.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the City2Surf organisers.
