Course & challenge

Challenge Vieux Boucau Olympic

The swim is in the lac marin, the salt-water lake of Vieux-Boucau, at around 20 °C. The bike is 40 km on flat Landes roads, described by the organiser as a fast course, and the 10 km run is flat and goes around the lake. Bikes were checked in between 07:30 and 08:45, and the awards were at 13:00 at the Arènes.

One figure to check: the organiser’s home page lists the Olympic as 1.5 km, 45 km and 10.5 km, while the course pages give 1.5, 40 and 10 km. We use the course pages. The bike course stays open to traffic and drafting is forbidden. No time limit is published; cut-off times are calculated from each athlete’s own start.

An Olympic distance is short enough that family can see the swim exit, the bike start and the run, and still miss the finish while walking between them. When the athlete carries a phone and shares a Livebib link, family see the position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes, in a browser with no account or app. Anything estimated is marked as estimated, and if the signal drops the position is carried forward along the course. The athlete decides who gets the link.
