A triathlon on the Saemangeum Seawall

Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum is a Challenge Family triathlon on South Korea's west coast, raced on 30 May 2027 at Gunsan.

The race offers two distances on the same day. The middle distance is a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km bike and a 21.1 km run, and the standard distance is a 1.5 km swim, a 40 km bike and a 10 km run. The middle distance has a pro race and a Tri Together option.

The swim is two laps in the sea from Bieung Beach, followed by a 500 m run to T1. The bike is four laps on the Saemangeum Seawall, which the organiser describes as the world's longest at 33.9 km, on a closed road with smooth surfaces controlled by police and volunteers, and with views over the Gogunsan Island District and the Yellow Sea. The run follows the coastline at Bieung Port for four laps before the finish arch in the transition area.

The organiser gives an average air temperature of 25°C and a water temperature of 22°C for race day, with around 618 m of climbing on the middle distance bike and 52 m on the run. It suits athletes who want a fast, flat course and a long day in the open by the sea.

The official race hotel is the Best Western Gunsan Hotel. The suggested way in is to fly to Seoul and continue by bus or car. Entry includes a medal, a T-shirt and a swim cap. Supporters see athletes several times on the lapped bike and run courses.
