High desert gravel at altitude around Cedar City

The eighth Belgian Waffle Ride Utah, presented by BZI, moves to a May date on 14 and 15 May 2027 in Cedar City.

Known as the Hell of the South (West), BWR Utah brings the Belgian Waffle Ride format to Cedar City. Race day is Saturday 15 May, and the organiser lists 200 North Main Street in Cedar City as the address. In 2027 Utah runs as a standalone UCI Gravel World Series qualifier and is not part of the BWR Crown series.

Expect long gravel sectors, open high desert views and riding at altitude that rewards restraint early in the day. For planning, the organiser publishes the 2026 figures: the Waffle at 106 miles with about 5,500 feet of climbing, the Wafer at 65.1 miles with about 2,900 feet, and the Wanna at 31.3 miles with about 1,200 feet. Final 2027 routes and distance options will be confirmed separately.

Good pacing and a fuelling plan matter here, since the distance unfolds slowly across a big landscape. Each rider gets a number with an RFID timing tag for an official finishing time, stocked feed zones, marked courses and on-course support.

The weekend combines rider check-in, the Unroad Expo, the race and a post-ride celebration, and the organiser welcomes friends and family as volunteers.

On Livebib you can follow a rider who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry on the bike. That position comes from the rider, not from the organiser's timing, and the official results are published by the organiser.
