Whitehorse to Dawson City under the midnight sun

The Yukon River Quest is a 715 km paddling race down the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City, raced day and night in the long light of a northern June.

The 2027 race runs from 23 to 26 June. It is organised by the Yukon River Marathon Paddling Association, and paddlers come from around the world to race solo and tandem canoes and kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and voyageur canoes down one of North America's great wild rivers. The river passes through the territories of five First Nations on its way to the Klondike.

Race week starts in Whitehorse with racer and gear check-in on the Monday and a racer briefing on the Tuesday, both mandatory. Every team carries a two-way satellite communicator and a dedicated race tracker. Teams must pass Policeman's Point within 5 hours, Lower Lake Laberge within 15 hours and reach Carmacks within 36 hours of the start.

Carmacks is the mandatory 10-hour layover and the only place where teams may receive planned help from their support crews. From there the river carries the field on to the finish line at Dawson City, marked by a cone on river right, which closes 81 hours after the start.

The race suits experienced expedition paddlers who can manage sleep, cold water and navigation for several days. Support crews meet their teams at Carmacks, and a horn sounds at Dawson City as each team crosses the timing line.
