Inca Marathon
The organiser has not published a start time. The course follows part of the Inca trail through the Salkantay valleys, climbs to its high point of 3,150 m and to the ruins of Llactapata, then drops to the finish in Machu Picchu village, Aguas Calientes. More than 3,000 m of descent makes it a race for the legs as much as the lungs. The organiser puts it at 20 per cent single track and 80 per cent dirt road.
The ground runs from humid rainforest up to 2,500 m to drier heath forest up to 3,100 m, and the temperature from about 5 °C at the start and 2 °C on the highest pass to 25 °C at the finish, so the organiser sets up a point to leave a cap or jacket. The marathon gives 2 ITRA points. The course records are 4h 17’ 20” for men, by Juan Carlos Zarabia of Peru, and 7h 05’ 12” for women, by Marybelle Ferreira.
This page covers the Inca Marathon 2027. On Livebib, family and friends see the runner’s position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate for Machu Picchu village that updates as the race goes. In the valleys, where the phone can lose its signal, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated.
