Five distances on Rotorua's forest singletrack

Whaka 100 is a mountain bike marathon weekend in Rotorua, New Zealand, with five distances on the singletrack of the Whakarewarewa Forest.

The next edition runs from 22 to 24 October 2027. The organiser, Nduro Events, calls it New Zealand's premier MTB marathon and expects more than 3,000 riders over the weekend. The main venue is Waipa MTB Carpark.

The Giant Miler is the longest race at 175 km, with a pre-dawn start. The Shimano 100 km is the original Whaka100, built to link Rotorua's trails into one continuous ride without repeating trail. The Rotorua Canopy Tours 50 km is the step up for riders not yet ready for the 100, the Stan's 25 km is a point to point ride from Te Pūtake o Tawa Carpark back to the venue, and the That's It 10 km is the shortest way to be part of the weekend. The organiser's distance pages still show the 2026 race days, so check which day each distance runs in 2027.

On the latest edition the 50 km ran mostly on grade 1 to 4 trails and the 25 km on grade 1 to 3, with all features rollable and the course well marked. E-bikes were allowed on the 50 and 25 km but not on the 100 km or the Miler. Miler riders needed a front light for the dark start and had 15 hours to finish. The minimum age was 16 for the 100 km, 14 for the 50 km and 10 for the 25 km.

For the long races the only full service feed zone is on Red Tank Road, at about 50 km, with self service water stations elsewhere. Supporters may drive to the 50 km water station at Windy Road near Te Pūtake o Tawa Carpark, and they are welcome to ride forest trails outside the course to cheer, but not to ride with participants on the course.
