Lakes, mountains and trails to Queenstown
The Queenstown Marathon brings three distances together at the Queenstown Recreation Ground, on a course that is mostly trail.
The 2026 Queenstown Marathon is on Saturday 14 November. The marathon starts at Millbrook Resort near Arrowtown, the half marathon at Coronet Fields at Queenstown Polo, and the 10 km in Frankton. All three finish at the Queenstown Recreation Ground in the middle of town, and the course closes at 4:30 PM.
The organisers describe the route as about 70 percent trail and 30 percent road. It passes Arrowtown, Lake Hayes and the Old Shotover Bridge before following the shore of Lake Wakatipu into Queenstown, with the mountains around the basin in view much of the way.
With most of the distance on trail, it is usually slower than a flat city marathon, and it suits people who want scenery more than a personal best.
Spectators can watch along the lakefront and at the finish in central Queenstown, a short walk from most accommodation in town. The event is part of the running series run by IRONMAN New Zealand Limited.
On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Queenstown Marathon.
