Vansbro Halvsim

Halvsim is the swimming leg of En Svensk Klassiker Halva, the half-length version of the Swedish classic. It is open from age 10 and in 2026 it was swum six days before the main race, on the Sunday that opened the swim week.

It is not simply a shorter copy of the big race. Halvsim starts in Vanån with 500 metres downstream, then turns into Västerdalälven for the same final 1,000 metres upstream that the 3,000 m finishes on. Two thirds of the race are therefore against the current. The finishing time is decided far more by that upstream kilometre than by the opening stretch with the current.

For someone following from the bank or from home, the swim is short enough that a few minutes of uncertainty matter. When the swimmer shares their Livebib link, it opens in a browser without an app or account and shows the position on the river course, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates with the pace. If the signal from the water is lost for a while, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated, so the dot does not freeze at the turn. The swimmer chooses who gets the link.
