SwimRun Cape Cod Long Course

SwimRun Cape Cod Long Course

The organiser gives the Long as 13.1 miles of running in seven legs and 3,300 yards of swimming in six ponds, about 15 miles in all. The swims are Herring Pond (400 yds), Truro Great Pond (400), Horseleech (600), Higgins (300), Gull (800) and Long Pond (800). The run legs are 2.2, 1.4, 4.6, 0.7, 0.1, 1.4 and 2.7 miles. The 4.6-mile leg is the long one, and the two 800-yard swims come last, so the hardest swimming is when the legs are tired.

There are three cutoffs, at the pond entrances: Horseleech by 10:30 am, Gull by 11:15 am and Long Pond by noon. No racer may be on the course after 1:30 pm. Runs are marked with pink flags or arrows on the right side of the path, and swimmers must pass within 10 yards of each orange or yellow buoy. Wetsuits, paddles and pull buoys are allowed, fins are not, and everything you start with has to finish with you. Teams of two must regroup after every segment.

With six swims and seven runs, family will want to know which pond the racer is at, not just how far they have gone. On Livebib the racer shares their own broadcast link, which opens in any browser without an account. It shows position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. When the phone loses its fix in the water, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated.
