Classic and skating in the heart of Šumava

The Šumavský skimaraton is a cross country ski weekend in Kvilda, in the Šumava mountains of the southern Czech Republic.

The 42nd Šumavský skimaraton takes place on 16 and 17 January 2027 in Kvilda, the centre of skiing in Šumava. It is organised by the Fischer Ski klub Šumava Vimperk, which also runs a summer mountain bike marathon. Saturday morning belongs to free technique, children race from 14:00, and Sunday is the classic day.

The main classic race is 45 km on a single loop. It passes Kvilda, Zhůří, Horská Kvilda and Filipova Huť, runs down the valley of the Modrava brook, takes the known climb towards Černá hora and passes the source of the Vltava before finishing back in Kvilda. A shorter classic race covers 23 km.

The free technique races on Saturday use the Zhůří loop. The short race is one 23 km lap and the long race is 46 km over two laps, passing through the finish area between them. For people who do not want to race there is also an 8 km ride that still uses the event services.

The start order is set from results at the last two editions, so regular participants line up ahead. Spectators can follow both days from the race base in Kvilda, where the start and finish are, and the two laps of the skating race give a second look at the field.

On Livebib you can follow a skier who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and official results come from the organiser.
