A spring skate race in the Meråker mountains

Storlirennet is a free technique ski race of about 35 km in the mountains above Meråker in Trøndelag on Saturday 10 April 2027, with start and finish at Grova ski stadium.

From 2027 the race is organised by IL Varden Meråker, and it has a new home. Storlirennet used to run in the mountains near Storlien on the Swedish border, but a lack of snow up there led the organiser to move it. The new course of about 35 km goes into the high mountain terrain of Meråkerfjellet, north east of Grova ski centre, and both start and finish are at Grova.

The race is skied in free technique. There are two ways to take part. The competition class starts at 11:00 with timing and results, while the trim class starts any time between 10:00 and 10:45 without timing, for those who want the mountain tour more than the clock. Three drink stations are set up along the course, and there is pole service at 1 km and at every drink station.

Classes run from children aged 16 and under to juniors, seniors and veterans of 70 and over, so the race suits a wide range of skiers. Mid April in the mountains often means firm tracks in the morning, long daylight and strong sun, but the weather can change quickly, so bring an extra layer. The organiser has also announced a new classic race, Meråker50, with 50 km and 25 km, and promises more details later.

Spectators should head for Grova ski stadium, where the field starts and finishes. Meråker is a short trip from Trondheim and from the Swedish side, which makes it easy to combine the race with a spring weekend in the mountains.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry during the race. This is a separate service and not the organiser's timing. Official times and results come from Storlirennet.
