Laguna 69, Refugio Pisco and the Llanganuco lakes

Sierra Andina Outdoors calls Mountain Trail its flagship race: three distances in the Llanganuco valley of the Parque Nacional Huascarán, in the Cordillera Blanca, all finishing at Recreo. The 10th edition was run on Sunday 19 July 2026. The organiser has not yet published the date of the next one.

The Huascarán 50K starts at Recreo at 05:00 and, in the organiser's words, explores the rough, wild side of the Cordillera Blanca. It reaches the María Josefa aid point at km 13 and Lluraccoral at km 18, climbs to the Refugio Pisco base camp at km 23.5 and Laguna 69 at km 28, then comes back through Lluraccoral at km 36, where the cut-off is 15:00, and María Josefa at km 41 to Recreo. That makes 48.1 km and 2,450 m of climbing, with 12 hours to finish, so the line closes at 17:00.

The Pisco 30K, a sky marathon, starts at Lluraccoral at 07:00 and goes straight up to Refugio Pisco (km 5.5) and Laguna 69 (km 10), then back past Lluraccoral at km 18, with the same 15:00 cut-off, and María Josefa at km 23 to Recreo, 30.8 km with 1,520 m up and 2,060 m down. The organiser warns that it is shorter than the 50K but some find it just as hard. The Llanganuco 15K leaves Lluraccoral at 09:00 on dirt roads beside the turquoise Llanganuco lakes and through the queñual forest of María Josefa, 15.4 km with 360 m of climbing, under glaciers and peaks of 6,000 m.

Above the lakes, between the refuge and Laguna 69, a phone can lose its signal for long stretches. On Livebib the runner shares a link with whoever they choose. Family and friends open it in a browser, no app or account needed, and see the position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate for Recreo that updates as the race goes. When the signal drops, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated instead of freezing.
