Between the Haard and the Mining Museum
A Sunday of gravel and mountain biking out of Belval, through the nature reserves of Luxembourg’s south and past the National Mining and Iron Museum in Rumelange.
The biking day of the Red Rock Challenge is Sunday 11 October 2026, with start and finish at Lycée Belval. Six of its routes are on this page: gravel loops of 32, 66 and 95 km, and mountain-bike loops of 40 and 62 km, the 62 km ridden both as a tour and as a race. The routes cross the nature reserves of Haard, Hesselbierg, Steebierg, Lalléngerbierg and Giele Botter, and the longer loops pass the Mining Museum in Rumelange and the Italian quarter of Dudelange.
The organiser publishes 390 m of climbing on the 32 km gravel loop, 780 m on the 66 km and 1,160 m on the 95 km; the MTB loops carry 530 m (40 km) and 880 m (62 km). Gravel and MTB use different routes: gravel riders get their GPX with the registration confirmation and are told not to follow MTB signs. Tours and gravel start in a window between 10:00 and 11:00 and close at 17:00, while the MTB race leaves at 10:00 behind a police escort. Roads stay open to traffic, and the forest is shared with walkers and their dogs.
A start window is hard on the people waiting: nobody at the finish knows whether their rider rolled out at ten or at eleven. With Livebib the rider shares a link to their own broadcast, and family open it in a browser, with no account and no app, to see the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the day goes. Under the trees of the Haard the phone can lose signal; the position is then carried forward along the course and marked as estimated instead of freezing. The rider decides who gets the link.
